Railway cops seize gutka, ganja from unclaimed bags at Egmore station
Chennai: Railway police seized 5kg of gutka and 3kg of ganja from unclaimed bags in trains at Egmore railway station on Thursday. Police said surveillance has been increased to prevent transport of cash, contraband or goods intended to influence voters. During a check on an express train from Kakinada to Chengalpet, officers found an unattended bag containing gutka. The consignment was seized and handed over to the Food Safety Department.In a separate incident, police searched an unreserved coach of an express train arriving from Jasidih in Jharkhand to Tambaram. An unclaimed bag containing 3kg of ganja was found and seized. The narcotic substance was handed over to the prohibition enforcement wing for further action. Police registered cases and are investigating to identify those responsible for transporting the contraband.
